There is no single style and taste of Indian cuisine of course, but rather a set of cooking philosophies and ingredients which reflect the availability and preferences of different Indian regions. In broad terms the country's cuisine can be divided into two main groups, deriving from the northern parts of India and the South. Mumbai, being in many ways the cultural capital of India and it's most cosmopolitan and vibrant city is the place in which to sample tastes and specialities from throughout India and in Jamavar, diners can experience the best of all possible worlds.

The name of the restaurant is derived from a woven Indian fabric, and in Jamavar Restaurant this symbolises the same intricate weaving of the finest quality ingredients in the creation of the sumptuous dishes on offer. Surendar, the restaurants master chef uses all his experience and skills to present a gastronomic tour de force through the culinary regions of India. Northern India is represented by the most fragrant of biryanis, succulent kebabs and all the Mughal dishes which form such a cultural part of Northern cuisine. Northern Indian dishes are generally Awadhi, with inspirations also from the Middle East and Central Asia.
From the south of India come many of the curries and spices for which the country is so renowned. Steeped in the history and culture of the southern regions, Malabar style cuisine is represented by mild curries, pancakes and steamed rice cakes and together with all the Awadhi inspired dishes of the north present diners at Jamavar with a rich cultural and culinary experience which is unmistakably and wholly Indian.
Diners can of course choose their favourites from the extensive menu, but if they prefer can leave the decision up to Chef Surendar who has created a series if set meals, beautifully balanced and infused with all the taste sensations which define the very highest standards of Indian cuisine. Set meals can also comprise an appropriate wine to complement the meal or diners can choose an alternative from a superb collection of cognacs, single malts, and liqueurs.
The luxurious setting of the restaurant within the Leela Kempinki adds to the appeal. Elegant and sophisticated decor, with Jaipuri chandeliers and soft classical music sets the scene for some wonderful dining and while the effect is one of classical and romantic India, the experience is wholly confident, clean and contemporary. With a capacity for just 60 persons, the Jamavar offers an excellent opportunity for romantic and intimate dining and as an exclusive restaurant diners should dress in a formal or smart-casual manner. Jamavar is open from 7.00pm till 1.00am and advance booking is highly recommended. To make a reservation, contact the Leela Kempinksi Mumbai.
